Welcome to Ben Hallam, our new Head of Bike Fitting
e’re really excited to welcome Ben Hallam into the PRIMO Cycles family. Ben will be joining us having spent his last 6 years as Head of Bike Fitting at Bespoke Cycles in London.
Ben was born into a cycling family. His uncle, Ian Hallam, was 3 times Commonwealth champion and Olympic medallist on the track as well as racing professionally on the road. Ben followed in the family tradition by winning the junior national pursuit championships and representing Great Britain at 2 Junior World Championships and 2 Under 23 European Championships on the track. Ben also applied his pursuiting prowess to win the junior British Best all-round Time Trial championship as well as the British Under 23 circuit time trial series. To develop his endurance, Ben also raced extensively on the road, spending 4 years living and racing in France and Belgium culminating in completing the Tour of Britain in 2005. More recently, Ben has completed a number of half Ironman triathlons.
Following his racing career, Ben completed a degree in BSc Sports Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention in 2010 at Middlesex University. The degree focuses on the assessment and treatment on musculoskeletal injury through electrotherapy, soft tissue treatment and therapeutic exercise prescription. Throughout his degree, he knew that he wanted to apply the knowledge he was gaining to the sport he loved. While researching cycling related injury, it became evident that correct bike fit was a crucial part of this equation. Therefore, Ben has dedicated his career to this field as the head of bike fitting at both WyndyMilla and Bespoke Cycling. During this time he has gained experience with a number of fitting systems including Retul and been featured in many articles and videos in the cycling press.
Ben has developed his bike fitting philosophy based on the principles that he learnt from his degree. The core principle to Ben’s bike fitting is that “the body is adaptable and the bike is adjustable”. This means that the body will adapt to a bad position (compromising posture and core stability) and consider this to be “normal”. Ben’s goal is to develop a holistic approach to address both the body and bike simultaneously.
At PRIMO Ben will be introducing and rolling out our our new fit systems including our real-time 3D optical motion capture system from STT, Sidas custom footbeds, our Virtual Wind Tunnel (as used by none other than Team Sky) and Shimano’s Dynamic Lab for peddaling analysis.
We’ll be keeping you up to date over the next week with everything that’s coming but if you have any questions in the mean time you can contact ben at firstname.lastname@example.org
